  4. Hello Fi, well, the plan is to have one new post for each day of Advent, so you'll just have to keep your eyes pealed! I hope Mia talks you into doing it too! (by the way is DEVO good or bad?) let's just hope Mia doesn't get to see the Hello Kitty Tree too!!

  5. It's a little tacky, a little glam, and a little sad. The very essence of Christmas.

  6. Andy,

DEVo is in fact a tragedy, as in devastation, not the band with funny red hats.....; )

  7. Hi John, Hi Fi!

Yeah, I think the same as you John!

Ok Fi, I'm going to pretend my finger is still on the pulse of popular culture, and that I know exactly what Devo meant all along, and who the band with red hats are!! ;)

  11. Well, as part of my introduction to the world of modern culture, I have just watched a Christmas Story, it was fun, I am surprised it isn't well known here in the UK, As for Devo, Well, the hats were good, a little bit Kraftwerk meets Pet Shop Boys, and I vaguely remember the song!

  12. OMG! I keep missing the fun stuff! Unfortunately, I remember DEVO. "Are we not men? We are DEVO!"

They have 'A Christmas Story' marathons here, and you can even buy that leg lamp in stores!

  14. Oh my musical tastes are vast and varied Fi, DEVo must have just slipped below my radar!

I was surprised that the Christmas Story film was set in the late 1940's I hadn't expected that, How different the life of average Americans was from those in Britain, where they still had rationing until the early 1950s! He would have been lucky to get an orange and some nuts in a stocking, let alone a pop gun! I really enjoyed the film though.

However I ALWAYS watch Muppets Christmas Carol before Christmas to get me in the right mood!! ;)

  15. Was it late 1940's? I assumed it was 1939, when 'The Wizard of Oz' debuted, (since that was a big theme in the parade shenanigans).

'30's or '40's --can we talk about the mother's hair? THAT was strictly 1980's!

  16. It may well have been late 30's, I wasn't too sure, I just read in the review on Lovefilm that it was set in teh 40's. There were references to both Oz and snow white so maybe you're right!

LOL, yes I was thinking about that hair all through the movie, plus what the HELL was she wearing!? who CHOSE that outfit for her!!?
