The Bird

Just in case any of you might have been wondering what the bird was that Fi mentioned in the last post, it's a little blackbird, sitting on the chimney pot. There's close up above; he looks likes he's starring in a very low budget Hitchcock 'The Birds' re-make! But I assure you he's quite tame, and unlikely to go anywhere as his feet are stuck into a blob of Blu-Tak!

  1. He looks quite happy up there. I like dotting wee touches like that around too.

    1. Hi Irene, Yes, your houses are full of character, love the new big house you're doing!

we get a lot of blackbirds here in our garden, they love the apples from out apple trees! So I when I saw the little bird at miniaturia last year, I just thought why not!?

    1. Hi Giac, good to hear from you.

I like to put little details into my houses, I agree that it is what makes them come alive. He's so small, I can't believe that Fi actually saw him in the other pics!

Hope you have a good weekend too, I'm looking forward to my birthday next Tuesday. Plus a trip to Windsor on Monday to see the castle and QM's dolls' house! as a birthday treat! Can't wait!!

  4. I Love Blackbirds, it was only the other day I was talking to Paul about them. They have the same mate for life. I remember years ago I found a dead female and the poor little male black bird sat on the fence and pined for her......: (

I think your little blackbird looks happier than that, I think he has an eye on a little spider in your chimney.

I thought i'd leave you with a bit of paul McCartney.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
    All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Black bird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
    all your life
you were only waiting for this moment to be free

    Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

    1. Hello Fi,

If he's anything like our blackbirds (yeah like we own them!!) he'll be waiting for the owners to throw out some bread crumbs. They only seem to eat apples during very cold weather, we also get redwings and fieldfairs coming for our apples in winter.

That's a great song, I remember hearing that when I was young! I love the Beatles, they had some great songs, and they don't seem to have dated much either.

    2. Hi Andy,

I love birds, I've always had a keen interest in them. English and European birds sound so much prettier than Australian. The sound is probably not something that you would initially think about until you came here, but we have so many rowdy parrots and cockies that they drown out the sound of the little birds. Right now all I can here are the rainbow lorikeets screeching in the tree outside. They are very pretty but oh so noisy at daybreak. Not like that scene in Pride and Prejudice when Elizabeth is walking through the fields and all you can here is the pretty twittering of the little birds.I remember being in Cornwall and waking at day break, I crept out side and just listened to the birds.......ahhh heaven.
      Oh no......I babbled again!

I have a feeling something special is happening tomorrow (today here)......hehe!

  7. Hi Andy, "nice to meet" you and your blog! Fi left a comment at my blog about the blackbird I have made myself. She told me about yours. I like your blog and I have read all about your blackbird;) But I think mine is happier, because he has a litle lady blackbird and some eggs in his nest.
Have a very nice birthday today (I read that above or am I wrong?) and congratulations!! Sorry if my English is not correct, I live in Holland.
    Kind regards, Ilona

    1. Hello Ilona, thanks for joining my blog. Good to 'meet' you too ;)

Yes, it was my birthday yesterday, had a lovely day, thank you.

I think maybe I should find my little bird a mate. The real blackbirds in the garden seem to be busy getting themselves ready for a little amore! ;)

      regards

  12. Hey, Andy! Happy Birthday (yeah, I know I'm LATE!) I hope you had a Fantastic trip to the Palace and a great tour of the Queen's dollhouse.... I have never seen it for real.... Maybe Someday!
I love your little blackbird... but I agree he might want a mate! We have blackbirds here and they always seem to flock together... and in the winter they line up in rows on the chimney tops where the warm air is! I look forward, as always to seeing more details!

  13. Hi Daydreamer, no, not too late at all.

(my brother forgot all about it!) Windsor Castle is worth seeing if you ever get a chance. The townn is quite compact, so easy to walk around. Queen Mary's doll's house was sublime, and I had plenty of time to view it too, as it was so quiet there that day!

Yes, I need to find my little bird a mate don't I, feel I'm being mean otherwise!! We get a lot of blackbirds here too, they do flock together, until there's not much food about then the are all squabbling, I have to chuck out extra apples when it's been snowing, it's quite funny watching them, like a little gentlemens' club, all sitting at there own apple!!

We get lots of other birds here too, blue tits, great tits, long tailed tits, green finches, chaffinches, sparrows, thrushes, robins etc, etc, it's like a little bird paradise sometimes

    Love
    Andy xx
