A Miniature Jubilee

Miniature portrait; The Wonham Collection
This weekend sees the start of Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee. There have been flags and bunting everywhere for weeks now, and the shops have been stocked up for months with almost anything emblazoned with the Union Flag.

The Miniature world has also been gearing up for the celebrations, with miniature union flags and bunting, red, white and blue cakes etc and street parties.

If you wanted to create your own miniature celebrations, there may still be time to stock up on a few Union Flag essentials! May I recommend the following;

Union Flag paper plates; ebay

Union Flag teapot; Dolls House Emporium

Union Flag mug; Dolls House Emporium

Union Flag bunting; Minimum World
And if you wanted the Queen herself to attend you street party there are a few miniature versions available, though they don't really look much like her!

Coronation outfit QEII; Peggy Nisbet
QEII? Alesia Newman Breen
The close-up looks a little bit more like her!
A very regal queen in coronation outfit, made in 1953 by Audray Haigh
Whatever you all choose to do this weekend ( I will be working!!) I hope that it is a good one!!!

    1. Hi Ilona,

I'll do my best to remain cheerful, there is supposed to be a little indoor street party at work over the weekend, but I'd rather be outside with friends!!

      Hope you enjoy your weekend!

  3. Sorry you have to work the first weekend of the festivities, Andy. I just found out a local pub here run by a British ex-pat is hosting a party on their roof with three cover-bands, playing the Stones, the Who and ELO (???) Anyway, I might go if it's not POURING AGAIN, which seems to be the norm these days!

(I thought the Alesia Newman Breen doll a striking likeness)!

    1. Hi John,

The roof party sounds fun, and great music by the sounds of things. I'm guessing you're not sure who ELO are, it is the Electric Light Orchestra, a band from teh 1970's, their most famous hit was Mr Blue Sky, which would be appropriate seeing as how you've had so much rain!! they also did Hold on Tight, quite a good band! (check them out on YouTube

Enjoy your weekend whatever the weather!!

  4. OOOH, I LOVE the teapot! And the Queen looks almost Herself in the doll made by Alesia Breen! So Fun that even the mini world is celebrating the Jubilee!
I was over there in June of '77 when she was celebrating the Silver Jubilee... I remember there were tons of special events like horse shows and boat races happening.... (I'm betraying my age...!)
I'm so sorry you have to work on the weekend.... have a cup of tea or two or three...

    1. I don't remember the silver jubilee at all, but then again I was only 3 years old!! How great that you were here to enjoy it all!

I will be having a few cups of tea, most certainly, and perhaps the odd slice of cake too! at the risk of sounding like Worzle Gummage!!

      regards

  7. Hi Andy.
I'm sorry I'm on the other side of the ocean. Well, if Dewell Manor could time warp into 2012, it would be all decked out...what better reason for a party? I hope you don't work too hard this weekend and get a chance to have a bit of fun.
    Big hug my friend,

  9. Happy golden jubilee!!

Paul did mention it! Wow there must be so much going on there, what fun!!! ????

it's amazing how miniaturists can prepare for every occasion! I can't believe there is so much available. i remember having a portrait similar to that of the Queen in my class room all so long ago. About 10 years ago I went back there and it was still hanging, although some what faded.

Enjoy the celebrations!!! God save the queen.......; )

  10. Hi Fi,

Good to hear from you, glad you found time to take a look at my blog!

I don't think that we ever had a portrait of the queen at my schools, I don't remember any. I think most of the big celebrations begin after today, as there are public holidays on Monday and Tuesday, and I think something is happening on the Thames on Sunday.

  11. Working?!? You have a really mean boss...unless of course you ARE the boss. In which case, let your hair down man and have a pint of something bubbly.

Have a great celebration Andy =0)

  12. Oh yes, my bosses are indeed Big Meanies!! Not sure I could handle a whole pint of fizz! maybe a half...

    Hope you're enjoying the weekend!

I think one could make a very nice toilet roll cover out of that Audrey Haigh Queen doll. You inspire me!
