A Hello and a Goodbye

Firstly, I must say hello and thank you to Carol over at Mitchymoo Miniatures. Who sent me a beautiful mother-of-pearl dressing table set as part of her very generous giveaway back in March.

I have been meaning to post a picture of them for a while, but having placed them in one of the smaller bedrooms in the Georgian house, they weren't easy to see. Eventually I decided that they would look better in the bedroom of the Swan Inn, so that is where they are now; and very nice they look too.

They are a bit hard to see in the picture above so I tried to get a closer image, not much success though!!

Once again Carol, many many thanks for the lovely gift!! xxx

And now for a sad goodbye...

I was very sorry to hear that Trevor Jiggins has decided to retire from making miniatures due to ill-heath.

Trevor and his wife Margaret of Dovetail Miniatures are a lovely couple, and I was lucky enough to be able to purchase some of his miniatures in the past. The picture above is the last item I bought from Trevor at the recent Kensington Dolls' House Festival; a Waring and Gillow shevret, which is now standing proudly in the Georgian House  Drawing Room!

I hope you have a long, happy and healthy retirement Trevor!!

  1. It's always a great loss when an artist stops its production: it leaves an empty feeling ...
Fortunately, the masterpieces they have created always remind us of their skill and sensitivity.
I'm not blessed with any of the pieces of Trevor, but I am very happy to see them in your Georgian House :-)
    Best regards,
    Flora

    1. Hello Flora,

I had a good chat with Trevor, he says it is ashame there aren't more younger people taking up the miniature craft to replace the ones who are retiring. It would be great to see some new miniature furniture makers at the dolls house shows, that said, there are still plenty of fine crafts people making miniatures, and tehy are always a pleasure to see!!

  6. Hello Andy,
I'm certainly happy you got that wonderful piece before Trevor retired. It's so sad when a great artist stops creating. Trevor trully is a great loss to our miniworld.
    All the best Andy,

    1. Hi Giac,

Yes, many older makers are retiring or have given up, but it is still nice to be able to support new miniaturists, and those still making things, I prefer to buy craftsman made pieces if possible. When I started collecting miniatures seriously, I made a promise to myself to buy the best I could afford; some shop bought items are beautifully made too, so it's a question of getting the right ballance I think. I often use furniture kits to try and save some money too.

  8. Hi Andy,

I missed this last night some how!

The dressing table set is just gorgeous and is perfect for the swan bedroom. The hairs on the brush are so fine.

What a beautiful piece of furniture and your Georgian house looks wonderful in the back ground. Such a shame Trevor wont be making any more pieces. I hope he enjoys his retirement though.
