Open House

Well, I have shown you just about all there is to see in the Georgian house now, until I get around to making curtains etc, and add more furniture to the rooms. But I realised that I hadn't posted a picture of the house with the front panels removed, so I have attached the photo above!

  1. Hello, I'm enjoying reading through your blog and your interesting room research posts, glad to have come across it! What a great house you are creating. Thanks for posting about the 'Hello Dollies' documentary on 4oD, I'd never seen it and have just watched it over a cup of tea, fascinating!

  6. Hi Andy,

I just wrote a post and some how it disappeared, so I hope I don't double post again.

Your House looks great Andy, it's good to see all the rooms and how they work together. I went back and had a look at your Dining room. I don't recall seeing that and it looks lovely. You have some wonderful detail in there, I especially like the Pineapples on the table. They are a symbol of hospitality aren't they?

I hope you will show us your basement Andy, it would be great to see all those rooms linking up.

Like I said to John, it's amazing how these grand rooms all of a sudden look so tiny when you see it as a whole.

    Well done, Fi x

  7. Hi, Andy!

Your house looks so impressive all opened up! Where do you have it displayed in your home? (Mine is in the dining room, which is kind of odd, but it was the only spot where it fit).

  13. Hello Fi,

Yes when you see all the rooms together they do look small don't they! will have to get another photo sorted so you can see the basement rooms too!

Yes I think pineapples could be said to be a symbol of hospitality, but also that old English favourite, snobbery and status! Exotic pineapples took huge amounts of man power and effort to grow in the temperate climate of Britain, (always under glass too) therefore were expensive luxuries, and having them on display to guests showed you could afford to grow them!! (sad but true!)

My favourite food item in my dining room is the plate of scallops in shells in the side board, which came from Pride of Plaice.

  14. Hi John, thanks again. Never did see any of those posts on your blog that disappeared! did you recover them? My dolls houses are all kept in my cellar, along with my books and computer, a sort of den if you like.

Am just about to drop in on your blog for an update on Merriman Park!

  15. Andy,

I'm looking forward to seeing the images of the basement, some how i think that will be my favourite part of your house, i so loved your posts about kitchens.

I had a look but couldn't quite make out the plate of scallops, maybe you could do some close ups of the detail at another time.

As for the Pineapples that is very interesting and none too surprising. I must say though, once they made it out to the colonies things must have changed....as you can imagine we pop them out like peas here and we have such architectural delights in QLD such as the "BIG Pineapple" if you haven't heard of it Andy you should google it, it's a fine example of sophisticated Australia....... : /

    Hugs, Fi x

  16. I LOVE to see the whole house open at once, Andy! It shows how much work you have done... as well as putting the rooms in relationship to each other. Doesn't it amaze you how much room the Hall takes up? My Lovely Old Dollhouse is like that... I have never been able to make it used for anything but the stairway... practically the largest room in the house! But the house wouldn't be the same without it... I love stairways! I will have to take the time to explore your blog archives further to find the details of the dining room..... It's such a pleasure! Your house is Lovely!

  17. OMG! have just seen that lovey BIG PINEAPPLE on Goggle! It's certainly an eye catcher! Is that the inspiration for Sponge Bob Square Pants home I wonder? I might let you see my scallops up close one day soon too!!! Was pleased to read on Simon's blog that you're a fairy step nearer getting your own blog set up, we all wait with baited breath!!

  18. Hello,

Yes, I do think the hall is quite large, and with the landing added, takes up a lot of room in my house. I might have planned it differently, had I been working to my own plans rather than those in a book, I did make several alterations to the original plans anyway, when building this house. That said, this house does feel right with the staircase, and as you say, wouldn't be the same without one.

  19. Andy,

I nearly died laughing about "Sponge Bobs" house,I wouldn't be at all surprised if thats where the inspiration comes from. You would have of course come across the "Big Banana" And the "Big Prawn" during your search. Architectural wonders we Australians are so proud of.

On a more serious note though, I do intend to add to my blog some images of Australia, some typical and some not so typical, just to show we are not all Pineapples and Prawns out here!

  22. Hi Fi!!

I look forward to seeing more pictures of Australia, I don't know a huge amount about it, apart from what I used to watch on TV when I was growing up, was it called 'the Sullivans'? and of course Kylie and Jason on Ramsey Street! So clearly from what I have seen, You are always popping in and out of each others houses, you never knock or ring the bell, and you drink coffee in tiny cafes inside roadside motels! Oh and you all eat kangaroo testicles if the Celebrity Jungle thingy that rolls around every year is to be believed!! ;oD

Somehow I think I have a few gaps in my knowledge that need filling in, get that blog sorted soon!
